Practical Nursing

Be a part of tomorrow’s health care team through Practical Nursing!

Employment of LPNs is expected to grow 23% with 2,022 openings expected annually between 2008 and 2018, in response to the long-term care needs of an increasing elderly population and the general increase in demand for health care services.  The current average salary for LPNs is $19 per hour for Ohio.

The Wayne County Schools Career Center Adult Practical Nursing Program, located in Smithville, Ohio, is a great way to get the education you need to fulfill your dream of becoming a Licensed Practical Nurse.  The Practical Nursing Program graduated its first class in 1968.  Since that time it has served Wayne County and the surrounding areas as the primary educational resource for practical nurse education.  A high standard in nurse education is demonstrated by maintaining a high passage rate for the first time test takers on the National Council’s Licensure Examination for Practical Nurses (NCLEX).  In 2011, 96% of our graduates passed the NCLEX and were licensed as Practical Nurses.

We offer a 12-month program (5 days a week) or a 17-month program (4 evenings a week) in practical nursing.  Successful completion of the program leads to eligibility for the National Council Licensure Examination (NCLEX).

The application deadline for the 2013 Day class is March 8, 2013. The class will begin July 8, 2013.

Students are also responsible for the purchase of textbooks, BCI/FBI fingerprinting, scrubs, medical vaccines, and a physical examination.  The approximate total cost of these expenses is $967.

The program requires students to hold a current STNA certification. A combined STNA + LPN program is offered, allowing students the opportunity to complete both programs at a reduced rate.

The links on the right side of this page will lead you to more information about how to enroll in the Adult Practical Nursing program.  If you have any questions concerning the program, please call our facility at 330-669-7000 or email us at aeinfo [at] wcscc [dot] org.

Upon passing the NCLEX licensure exam, graduates will be eligible to pursue accelerated LPN-RN programs including Stark State’s satellite program housed in the Career Center.  A RN-BSN bridge program is also available through The University of Akron Wayne College.

Thank you again for your interest in the Wayne County Schools Career Center Adult Practical Nursing Program.  We look forward to facilitating your journey in reaching your nursing education goals.
