Awarded in September 2010

The Wayne County Schools Career Center is proud to honor the Brenn-Field Nursing Center of Orrville as an Outstanding Business Partner. The business was nominated by Practical Nursing Coordinator Jackie Shrock.

Accepting the award was Administrator Jacqueline Doyle and Director of Nursing Rebecca Oller.

“Brenn-Field has been a consistent employer of our graduates, all three shifts, for many years,” said Shrock. “A member of their staff is usually on our nursing advisory board. They are a clinical site for adult day, evening and high school practical nursing programs, and their charge nurses act as preceptors during the clinical leadership rotations.

Forty-three out of 110 employees have graduated from Wayne County Schools Career Center programs or have taken classes in Adult & Community Education, said Becky Oller. The group includes many practical nurses and state-tested nurse aides, a few supervisors, office workers, a dietary aide, and a maintenance supervisor.

The business, located on Lynn Drive in Orrville, was opened as a 100-bed nursing home in 1974 by Jeanne and Don Stepfield. “Their vision of providing affordable quality care in a warm country setting is fulfilled each day by a dedicated and compassionate staff,” said its website. In 1997, they added a Medicare skilled unit to deliver more acute care to residents. In addition to the nursing home, they have eight independent apartments for senior citizens.

At the Career Center, Brenn-field has provided guest speakers like Linda Schaffter, LPN, who brings motivation to the students, as well as being a graduation guest speaker. “Several nurses and administrators have assisted by doing mock interviews with our students,” said Shrock. “They have a friendly staff who welcomes our students.”

We thank Brenn-Field Nursing Center for its contributions to the Career Center and ongoing support of career-technical education.
