Awarded in December 2012

Gerber Lumber and Hardware has been serving Wayne County since 1901.

Elias Peter (EP) Gerber, an energetic 25-year-old carpenter, began the business that has developed into a multi-service hardware, building supply yard, and manufacturing millwork company.

Today under the leadership of third generation ownership by Steve Gerber, E.P. Gerber & Sons has grown into two different companies, Gerber Lumber & Hardware, a full service Building supply yard, and Gerber Wood Products, a custom millwork shop. Gerber Lumber & Hardware is located in downtown Kidron.

Accepting the award tonight is general manager Mark Dorffer, David Miller Jr. and Connie Curren.

Most recently, Gerber’s has worked with our carpentry and construction technologies students to design blueprints for the Village Network Pier in Wooster. Connie Curren, CAD consultant, helped many of the students develop their ideas into workable drawings.

Gerber’s has members serving on the Carpentry/Construction Technologies advisory committee, they host field trips, provide guest speakers for classes, and provide materials and judges for skill competitions. They have also donated drawing prizes for Sophomore Visitations to attract more students to the construction trades.

Nominating Gerber Lumber and Hardware was Carpentry instructor Rod Martell. “Gerber Lumber is a locally owned and operated business,” Rod said. “They are very easy to work with and provide many services to our school and program.”

We thank Gerber Lumber & Hardware and their staff for their ongoing support of our Carpentry and Construction Technologies programs and the Wayne County Schools Career Center.
