Why attend the Career Center?

  • 27 career and technical programs - select a program that interests you!
    • Two RAMTEC programs - Machining Technologies and Robotics & Automation - for high school seniors only.
  • More than 800 students from all over Wayne County - meet students from more than 10 different schools (public and private).

  • Continue to participate in sports, music, drama, and clubs at your home high school.


Who attends the Career Center?
High school juniors and seniors within Wayne County.

  • Public Schools: Chippewa, Dalton, Northwestern, Norwayne, Orrville, Rittman, Smithville, Triway, Waynedale, and Wooster
  • Private Schools: Central Christian, Heritage Private, Kingsway Christian, and Wooster Christian
  • Homeschooled, e-schools, and other schools
     

How do I apply to attend the Career Center?

  • Visit the Career Center with your school and/or attend the WCSCC Open House to explore programs that might be a good fit for you.
  • Talk to your high school counselor or call the Career Center Student Services Office at 330-669-7020 to learn more about the application process.

How long are most programs?

  • Two years for high school juniors and seniors
  • One year programs for high school seniors - RAMTEC Machining Technologies and Robotics & Automation!
  • We offer a 13th year if you decide to change programs after your junior year or begin here as a senior.

 

Can I take more than one program?

  • Most programs take two years to complete, so students typically only take one program during their time at the Career Center; unless they're enrolled in a senior-only RAMTEC program.


How do I get to the Career Center from my school?

  • Many students ride the bus from their home high school.
  • Some students drive to and from school so they can go to work during or after school or participate in after-school activities. Career Center students can still participate in sports, music, drama and other home high school activities. 


How much does it cost?

  • There is no tuition - you only pay lab fees.
  • Some labs require you to rent/purchase tools and uniforms.
  • Students who qualify for Free or Reduced Lunches do not pay fees.


What academic classes do you offer?


Can I earn college credit for Career Center classes?
Yes! The Career Center offers several advanced academic classes for college credit. Many career tech programs provide students with the opportunity to earn college credit and certifications/ licensures. Check with Student Services for more details. 

 

What is the Half-Day Option?

  • Half-day students take their academic classes at their high schools
  • Students are responsible for their own transportation to and from the Career Center. Transportation time is scheduled into the school day.
  • Students must work with their School Counselor to plan a half-day option.


What are the off-site programs, and where do they meet?

  • Engineering Technologies meets at Orrville High School.
  • Fire/EMT meets at the Wayne County Regional Training Facility, located in Apple Creek.
  • A bus is available to transport students to and from the Career Center for both programs.

 

What Work-Based Learning experiences can students be involved in at the Career Center?

  • Students can participate in a wide variety of Work-Based Learning experiences, both in and outside the classroom. Examples: field trips, clinicals, field stations, job shadowing, service learning, internships and externships, paid job placement, and customer service work.

 

What is Job Placement?

  • Job Placement provides trade-related training through employment in the student's career field. Qualifying considerations include attendance, grades, professional conduct, and WCSCC Drug Free Club membership.

Can Career Center students go to college?
Yes! Generally, about half of our students attend colleges or tech schools, or receive extra training after they complete their Career Center program. Many of our students earn college credits through completion of required coursework in their career tech program.


What certifications can I earn at the Career Center?
Each program is different. Our instructors regularly connect with local business and industry partners to ensure we're always training on in-demand skills and offering the most current certifications.


How do you help students with academic courses?

  • The Extra Help Areas are staffed with full-time coordinators and certified tutors to assist students with testing, papers, and homework.
    • We have both a Student Assistance Center (SAC) to help students on Individual Education Plans (IEPs) and a Math Assistance Center (MAC).
  • The Credit Recovery/Testing Room has online programs to assist students with credit recovery.
     

How do you help students with special needs?

  • The Student Assistance Center (SAC) is for students on Individual Education Plans (IEPs).
  • We have full-time Special Education Coordinators, Intervention Specialists and tutors who assist students with testing, homework, writing, reading, provide recorded academic lessons, and scheduling.
  • English, math, science, and social studies classes are modified for students with IEPs.
  • Our school is handicap-accessible.
